The celebration aims to strengthen ties between Nordic countries and the Kingdom and includes a host of cultural events, including screenings of films from Norway, Sweden and Finland.
The event at the Danish Embassy began with an address by the Ambassador of Denmark, who highlighted the importance of celebrating Nordic traditions and the theme of Nordic Joyfest, emphasizing the joy found in community and shared experiences. In her remarks, the Ambassador underscored that the event was not only a celebration of Nordic heritage but also a reflection of the strong cooperation among the Nordic nations.
The baking event was designed to foster unity through a shared culinary experience. The Danish Embassy collaborated with Aysh Academy at Hayy Jameel, a renowned local baking institute in Jeddah, founded by Sumaia Showail. Ms. Showail, a pastry chef with over a decade of experience, has been trained by world-renowned leaders in artisan bread and pastry education and is known for her expertise in Danish pastry-making.
The event was further enriched by the participation of students from the Higher Institute for Tourism and Hospitality (HTMI) in Saudi Arabia, which has been a long-standing partner of HTMi Hotel and Tourism Management Institute in Switzerland since 2015. HTMi Saudi Arabia is a distinguished institution, recognized for its dual diploma program, offered in collaboration with both Swiss and Saudi partner institutes. Their participation in the event provided valuable learning opportunities, and we were honored to have them involved in the day’s activities, contributing to the shared spirit of collaboration and excellence.
Following the Ambassador’s speech, participants were divided into small teams for a friendly competition, where they created traditional Danish pastries. Each team worked collaboratively, blending creativity and teamwork to perfect their recipes. The competitive aspect added an extra layer of excitement, inspiring teams to put forth their best efforts. The event culminated in a shared tasting of the delicious pastries, celebrating not only the competition but also the spirit of togetherness and cooperation.
